CHELSEA / From Pitch to Creation. As CD at COPA90 I worked on a pitch for Chelsea FC to connect the club to fans outside of just football. ‘Club Culture’, was our overarching line and idea, and from this we were able to create partnerships and collaborations with Artists, Musicians, Makers, and Creators.
London Derbies - Working alongside London based artists, such as Alva Skog, Reed Miles and Poet James Maasiah we commissioned films, poems and artwork to celebrate Chelsea’s London derby matches throughout the season. We also created maker films, where some of the artists talked about their work, and the creative processes involved in the commissions.
Perfect Day - A film written and directed by me to celebrate a great year at the club.
Back To The Bridge - A film written and directed by me to celebrate the return of fans to Stamford Bridge.
Feelin Blue - We commissioned James Massiah to write a poem about being a Chelsea supporter and I then wrote and directed the film to accompany it.
VISA WOMENS FOOTBALL / One of ten films for Visa that I wrote and directed for Visa’s sponsorship of The Womens Champions League.
JEAN MARC BOSMAN FEATURE DOCUMENTARY / I had always been fascinated by the Bosman ruling and the story around it. When I was looking to do with first feature documentary, this was the obvious story and I wondered why no one had done it, being as its probably one of the most seismic moments in modern day football. 5 years of traveling to and from Belgium, meeting and trying to persuade Jean Marc to do the doc, was probably why it hadn’t been made. He didn’t trust anyone or anything to do with the media, given how badly he was treated throughout the case and ever since. Eventually he came to trust me and I was finally able to do what he had always wanted, to tell his story. I took on so many roles with this project and learnt so much. Writer, Researcher, Producer, Director and my own commission from BT Sports.
RUGBY SUPER LEAGUE / One of the craziest projects I ever did. When RSL wanted a film to celebrate the new season, I ended up in the back of a van traveling back and forth across the M62 over 5 days, and it was brilliant fun.
ADIDAS ‘THERE WILL BE HATERS’ / I got a call from a mate at Iris, who asked if I would shoot a test film for him, to help sell a concept in for Adidas and Football. He was a great mate, and I of course said yes, without even seeing the script. When I read it, I couldn’t believe it. It was the best script about football since Park Life. We had 30mins with Luis Suarez in an old football ground outside Liverpool. When we got there, 30mins turned to 7mins and I ripped up the board and reimagined it as the film it became, with one long tracking shot. Three takes in 7 mins and the rest is the history of one of the best Football ads of all time. I feel privileged to have been involved.
